Alejandra Chacón M.

is an attorney at law admitted to practice in the Republic of Panama (1995), and experienced international specialist on compliance matters. Mrs. Chacon completed her law school at the University of Panama (1993) and obtained an MA degree in International Studies at University of Chile (1998). Also, she obtained two Professional Diplomas in anti-money laundering at Universidad Latina of Panama (2019 and 2021). She also has specializations on “Compliance Management Systems. Requirements and recommendations ISO 37301 (DIS)”, International Dynamic Advisors, INTEDYA (Spain, 2021, recognized by the World Compliance Association); and “Regulatory Compliance”, University of Pennsylvania (USA, Coursera, 2021).

Experience & Activities

As a Compliance Specialist and Compliance Officer, she has long experience in reviewing business compliance regulations, regulatory procedures, designing policies, ISO Standards with emphasis on ISO 37301, Financial Action Task Force standards, training in compliance matters, regulation and due diligence in anti-money laundering, terrorism financing, and financing of proliferation, among others.

As a Vice-President of the Regulatory Compliance Committee of Panama Bar Association, she has worked in reviewing and making comments about bills presented at National Assembly, for example the Beneficial Owner Law (Law 129 of 2020). Also, she had participated in many high-level meetings with authorities on behalf of Panama Bar Association, and she has organized and participated in many trainings about regulatory compliance.

As a President of Lawyer’s Committee – Panama Chapter of the World Compliance Association, she has worked with others members of the World Compliance Association to promoted and sharing about culture on compliance through webinars, meetings, publications; and recently as a coordinator of the 1st International Congress of the Committee of Legal Professionals: CHALLENGES OF COMPLIANCE FROM A LEGAL PERSPECTIVE.

Also, she is an Alternate Member of the Court of Honor of the Panamanian National Bar Association.
